Site selection: Careful site selection is a top priority. In particular, the aquaculture farm shall prevent all water pollution and shall not adversely affect the surrounding ecosystems. Natural stocking densities and adequate holding systems keep the farmed animals healthy and prevent the outbreak of diseases.
Natural processing: The use of chemicals and genetically modified organisms is strictly prohibited in organic aquaculture farming. The use of natural remedies and treatments is a priority. Organic products are by definition natural and free of chemicals; hence, the use of any chemical additives is also prohibited during the final processing of the product.
Eco-friendly feeding:
The farmed animals are fed with vegetable products from certified organic agriculture. Fish meal and fish oil used for feeding carnivorous species come from the remains of fish processed for human consumption or from certified sustainable fisheries, thus conserving marine resources and preventing further overfishing of seas and oceans (no fishing for the sole purpose of feeding farmed animals).
Social responsibility: Strict social standards are observed throughout the entire processing chain, guaranteeing fair and modern working conditions for all labourers.
