What is the MSC?
The MSC label (Marine Stewardship Council) applies to all wild-capture products in the Animare product line. This label guarantees that all wild captures come from sustainable fisheries certified by the MSC. Animare thus supports progressive fisheries around the world and promotes an exploitation of marine resources that considers the environment.

The MSC environmental standard is the only internationally recognised certification programme that provides a quantifiable assessment of good management practices for sustainable fishery. The criteria for sustainable fishing are based on three fundamental principles which must be met in order to be certified by the MSC.

The three MSC principles:

1. Fishing operations must be conducted in a manner that does not lead to overfishing or depletion of the exploited populations. For those populations that are depleted, the fishery must be conducted in a manner that demonstrably leads to their recovery. The intent of this principle is to ensure that the productive capacities of resources are maintained at high levels and are not sacrificed in favour of short-term interests.

2.Fishing operations should allow for the maintenance of the structure, productivity, function and diversity of the ecosystem on which the fishery depends. The intent of this principle is to assess and restrain the impacts of the fishery on the ecosystem (including the seabed and other habitats), to limit bycatch and detrimental effects on aquatic birds and marine mammals.

3.Fishing operations are subject to an effective management system that respects all relevant laws and standards and incorporates institutional and operational frameworks that ensure the exploitation of resources in a responsible and sustainable manner. The intent of this principle is to allow for an effective implementation of principles 1 and 2.
